The well-known German manufacturer of PV-modules, Recom, plans to expand its production activities in the first quarter of 2019 with a capacity of 700 MW, using equipment from the Polish company Jabil. The talks began between the companies after the US allowed the import of solar energy.

“We started negotiations after the ITC decision on Petition Section 201 in the US,” said CEO Recom Hamlet Tunyan.

Recom’s expansion strategy envisages a series of measures that the PV manufacturer wants to use to address the restrictions on the U.S. market.

“We are expanding our production portfolio to respond to our customers’ needs in both the U.S. and Europe,” Tunyan said.

In the future, the company plans to produce highly efficient monocrystalline, polycrystalline, bifacial and half-cell modules. The modules that will be produced with Jabil’s equipment will be mainly distributed in the solar markets of the U.S. and Europe.

Recom currently has production capacities for a total of 1.5 GW. The manufacturing plants are located in Italy, France and Asia. In addition, the company is also active as an independent electricity provider and has a pipeline of PV projects in the U.S., Germany, Hungary, France, Poland and Ukraine.
