During the boiler-house’s renovation, a 5-MW solid-fuel boiler that works on wood-chip biomass was installed.
According to Lutskteplo State Enterprise , the project will save the city up to 3 million cubic meters of gas annually.
In addition, the heat energy, generated by the new boiler, is planned to be used to provide residents of the entire district of the city with hot water throughout the year.
It is worth to mention that the tariff for heat energy generated from renewable sources is set at 90% of the tariff for heat energy generated from gas. As Yuriy Shafarenko, Director of the Department of Renewable Energy at the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, told IB Center in an interview, “such pricing, proposed in 2017, is transparent and has proved to be effective in practice”. He stresses that the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine is now developing a pricing scheme for calculating tariffs for solar power plants under the same principle.
