Auctions to award 9.6GW of solar in Q3 2017 – GTM

More than 80GW of solar PV will be installed just in 2017, despite a slowdown in annual demand growth, according to the latest ‘Global Solar Demand Monitor Q2 2017’ from GTM Research. Back in April, GTM had predicted that global PV demand for 2017 could be as high as 85GW, but the firm has brought that upside figure down to 84.1GW in its new report. Auctions The analyst firm also reported that solar PV auctions are set to award 9.6GW of capacity in the third quarter of this year alone. GTM is now tracking a 17.4GW pipeline of announced and confirmed solar auctions across the globe, of which a significant proportion (8.1GW) is coming from Europe. South Asia, led by India’s National Solar Miss

Installed capacity of renewable energy plants of Ukraine exceeded 1.46 GW in first half of 2017

As a result of 6 months of 2017, 79 new renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 182.7 MW were built in Ukraine. Total investments in these projects exceeded € 210 million. Such data are presented in the analytical report prepared by the IB Center expert group and are the part of preparation of SEF-2017 KYIV, the 9th Sustainable Energy Forum and Exhibition of Eastern Europe (2017.sefkyiv.com), which will be held in Kyiv on October 9-11 (the Congress- Exhibition Center "Parkovy"). Thus, as of July 1, 2017, the total power of renewable energy sources in Ukraine, including solar and wind energy, small hydropower and biomass power plants (biogas), amounted to 1461.7 MW. During the

790 Gigawatts of Cost-Cutting Renewable Energy Potential in South East Europe

Renewable energy costs have been falling through the floor — they have fallen so fast that even cleantech enthusiasts have been shocked several times in the past year by increasingly low prices. We’ve been shocked dozens of times in the past 5 years. I would bet that even most members of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) didn’t expect solar and wind costs to drop so much over the past 5 years. I’m sitting in IRENA’s annual General Assembly right now, and the leaders of small island developing nations are talking about their plans to reach 60–100% renewable energy. Of course they are — fossil fuels are expensive everywhere, but especially so on islands. Renewables save money a

8th International Forum of Sustainable Energy in Ukraine SEF-2016 KYIV held in Kyiv

8th International Forum of Sustainable Energy in Ukraine SEF-2016 KYIV held in Kyiv on October 11-12. The Forum is the main business event about last energy technologies and solutions. More than 350 delegates from 29 countries and leaders of the Ukrainian Ministries and departments discussed investment possibilities in the energy efficiency and renewable energy field. A lot of important meetings, negotiations, signings contracts were during SEF-2016 KYIV. The investment project ChornobylSolar was first presented on SEF-2016 KYIV by Minister of ecology and natural sources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak. To breathe life into the lost after Chornobyl disaster area the government plans by this project

Chernobyl Radioactive Zone May Get Giant French-Built Solar Park

Ukraine is talking to one of France’s largest energy companies about building a giant, billion-euro ($1.25 billion) solar park in the uninhabited radioactive zone surrounding the abandoned Chernobyl nuclear reactor. Engie SA is beginning a pre-feasibility study funded by the French government next week with the results expected for the end of the year, Ukraine’s minister of ecology, Ostap Semerak, said in a Friday interview in London. “France’s experience in nuclear is one of the reasons that we wanted to work with them,” Semerak said. “They approached us after we announced our intention to develop renewables in Chernobyl.” A spokesman at Engie confirmed that the company is in discussions wi

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of Ukraine in June - DIGEST

The "Old Sambir-2" wind power plant, which has a capacity of 20.7 MW, will start its operation this fall. In the near future another construction of a wind farm in the Lviv region is also expected. Two objects of the wind farm "Old Sambir-1" already work in the Lviv region, each with a capacity of 6.6 MW. Over the past year, these wind farms produced 23.1 million kWh of electricity. The new 11 MW solar power plant was put into operation by KNESS company in the Kherson region. Currently, Kherson region has already installed solar power plants with a total capacity of 51.86 MW. ◊◊◊ In June, TIU Canada began the construction of a solar power plant on the territory of the Nikopol Ferroalloy Pl
